August 10, 2004: Things that are too Short

August. August always comes and goes too quickly. Vacations. After achieving relaxation, then rejuvenation, it’s always time to go home. Falling in love. It is much more pleasant and exhilarating to fall in love than to be in love but falling in love never lasts long enough. It either turns into boredom or bitterness or being in love, none of which is nearly as enjoyable.

Time with friends. There are too many distractions in life — work, money, eluding the government – and there is never enough time with friends. Childhood. When we are small, we are in such a hurry to grow up, to grow hair, to accomplish puberty, and be responsible. Nobody who is a child can appreciate the liberty and beauty of being a child.

All the warranties on my electronic equipment, by, say, about a month. Days in January. The lifespan of shoes and printer cartridges. My fingernails. They have always been brittle and they break easily so I trim them very close. Male potency. We peak at about 20. I’m well past my prime and I’ll never now be a porn star.

Sleeping. I’m always short on sleeping. And if you are to believe her, Murphy’s walks. They are rarely long enough. Unlike me, she’s inexhaustible.

This list, perhaps. It turns out Things that are too Long was easier.

Love the ‘short’ candle that prefaces your list of things that are too short.

I’d like to add me to the list, only becasue I long to be able to reach things on top shelves.
