April 30, 2005: Silas as Septimus

When it was all over, Septimus Smith just jumped. No speeches. No explanation. Just the jump. And he knew, or Virgina Woolf knew, what it all meant. Now, there would be a song, a video, a speech, grand philosophizing, the saying of important but nevertheless redundant things. No. None of that. I’m jumping. I’ve already said too much.

Here, here to Kia’s comments. I do so, selfishly, hope that you are not gone for good. That Snapped Shots is not gone for good. I just discovered you. Perhaps there could just be an opening up. A rebirth. Growth. More photographs.

Good luck with your brother and nephew. I hope the connection you are looking for happens. Don’t wait for the other person to get the ball rollling though. Fear prevents a lot of people from saying what they really want to say.

One of my favorite Zen thoughts: Leap, and a net shall appear… Good luck to you, my good friend and alter-ego!

Just keep peeling away all those layers of the onion, your future Septimus, lies within. The future is like a tree. As you climb the tree, the branches open out before you, according to the choices you make. So jump :)

Congratulations Silas!!!!!!

A year of a picture a day and pithy comments. What an amazing achievment. Now we need to find you a publisher for your “Journal of the Recluse Year”. I am incredibly impressed by your perseverence and amazing talent. Go out and photograph the world. I hope you find as much beauty there as you have found in the details of small things. I will look more closely at each and every object in my life because of your example.

Thank you.

Kia
