RFP: Unfunking my Life
Request for Proposal Unfunking my Life
Phase 1. Quick Fixes
Smoke less. Drink more water. Use my building’s gym. Take Murphy for longer walks. Eat healthier. Start and finish some smaller projects. I never finish everything. Write a short story. When that’s done, write another one. Paint some quick paintings. Read a book. Dance more. Call five old friends without complaining or despairing. Write a letter to a far-away friend I miss.
Phase 2. Ongoing Maintenance.
Find something to be happy about and write about that. Exorcise some demons. Much of the past is heavy and useless. Find a place to put it then put it there. Take an hour a day not to think about work. Rework my manuscript. Find the extraordinary in the ordinary. It’s a change in focus. It’s common and easy and lazy to find the ordinary in the extraordinary. Stop doing that. Do something good and unexpected for somebody who needs it. Find some meaning. Make a plan. Yes, that’s against my nature, I know it. I’ve never had a plan and it shows. Figure out a plan that I can stick to then stick to it.
Costing: A Little Discipline
My friends: I have a handful of really good friends and they will often say I make their life better and when they don’t say it explicitly, they let me know it all the time and they make my life better too.
